Carrie Gordon, Owner and Founder
Carrie Jacobs is the owner and founder of Pilates Studio at the Lake. Carrie has been in the fitness business for more than 15 years. She founded Pilates Studio at the Lake in 2001 after training and certifying with Stott Pilates International Certification Center. More recently, she studied Gyrotonic Method of Exercise and was awarded her certification from Gyrotonic International. A graduate of College of Charleston, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and merged her love of fitness with her desire to own her own business. Carrie most recently participated in the training and certification of the Xtend Barre Method, an exercise program that fuses Dance, Pilates and Sculpting.
Beth Gibbs, Studio Manager
Beth Gibbs has lived in Davidson since 1998, with her husband Paul and her two children. She is a librarian by training, but has had many other jobs, including managing the financial side of her husband’s dental practice. Beth has danced her whole life, and still dances with a group in Huntersville and attends dance competitions annually. She found Pilates over a year ago, and it was a life-changing experience. Beth hopes her passion for Pilates and her organizational skills can come together and help Pilates Studio at the Lake to be stronger in myriad ways!
Michele Pulaski, Instructor
Michele Pulaski’s journey into the health and wellness began as a dancer. She studied dance throughout her young adult and teenage years. In 2000 Michele began her career as a licensed massage therapist in Charleston, South Carolina. Learning the amazing capabilities the body has to function, build strength, and heal grew as her clients implemented Pilates into their massage program. This passion brought her back to the Charlotte area seven years ago where she has been teaching Pilates full time. Michele’s strengths are proven by her education, undergraduate degree in healthcare administration from University of Phoenix, associates of science from Trident Technical College Charleston, South Carolina, licensed massage therapist Southeastern Neuromuscular Massage School, Certified in Pilates through the Powerhouse Institute of Pilates and received her comprehensive teacher training with Balanced Body University.
Deanna Dorman, Instructor
Deanna is originally from Connecticut and recently moved to the Charlotte area. At the age of three years old, she began taking dance lessons, but her passion for fitness developed after her mother opened a small gym. At the early age of 15 she began working at the family’s gym and achieved her first fitness certification by the age of 16.
She went on to pursue a degree in Dance at Dean College in Massachusetts. During her years there, she received her certifications to teach Group Exercise and ultimately earned her ACE Personal Training Certification. After graduating, Deanna began her professional teaching career as a Personal Trainer. While working with many different types of clients she was exposed to the Pilates Method of training. Her desire to help her clients achieve their goals propelled her into a Teacher training program with Balanced Body Pilates. Deanna believes that her background in Dance and fitness helps her understand and teach others the Pilates Method. Deanna wants to reach as many people as possible so that they may reap the benefits of Pilates in their everyday lives.
Elizabeth Chaney, Instructor
Elizabeth began studying ballet at the age of five, steadily exploring a variety of styles including modern, jazz, flamenco, ballroom and African. She earned a B.A. in Dance from the University of Mary Washington, Cum Laude. She received the only senior award given in her department for overall creative excellence.
Elizabeth also earned a Registered Nurses license and enjoys working with clients who are interested in gaining optimal stability and functionality in their daily lives. Elizabeth discovered Pilates after a friend suggested they try a session together to gain some additional toning. It was the first approach to movement that addressed her life-long struggle with lower back pain, as well as an increasing number of joint injuries brought on by various forms of exercise. Pilates brought her to a deeper awareness of injury prevention, therapeutic movement, and the importance of the mind-body connection. She truly loves her work, and is Stott trained and certified in mat and reformer.
