Carrie Jacobs, Owner and Founder
Carrie Jacobs is the owner and founder of Pilates Studio at the Lake. Carrie has been in the fitness business for more than 15 years. She founded Pilates Studio at the Lake in 2001 after training and certifying with Stott Pilates International Certification Center. More recently, she studied Gyrotonic Method of Exercise and was awarded her certification from Gyrotonic International. A graduate of College of Charleston, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and merged her love of fitness with her desire to own her own business. Carrie most recently participated in the training and certification of the Xtend Barre Method, an exercise program that fuses Dance, Pilates and Sculpting.
Bernie Gustavsson, Instructor
A 20-year veteran of the fitness industry, Bernie Gustavsson began her career as a competitive bodybuilder. Over time, Bernie became an ACE-certified Personal Trainer and has spent years working with individuals on achieving high fitness goals.
Through her continuing education initiatives, Bernie discovered the benefits of Pilates and eventually became a certified STOTT Pilates instructor. Bernie feels Pilates is the most effective workout she’s ever experienced and enjoys sharing her Pilates knowledge with clients of varying backgrounds.
Katie Halstead, Instructor
Katie Halstead was introduced to Pilates during her college career as a dance major at Stephens College. While rehearsing she injured her back and used Pilates as her method of rehabilitation. Within weeks she was dancing again with a stronger core and more strength and flexibility than before.
After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree she began her training and was later certified in the STOTT Pilates method. Recently, she also became a certified post rehab Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist and an AFAA certified Personal Trainer.
As an avid runner Katie understands the benefits that Pilates has brought to her athletic background. She looks forward to sharing her love of Pilates with clients of varying backgrounds and levels.
Elizabeth Sturgis, Instructor
Elizabeth Sturgis, originally from Minnesota, began dancing at the age of 6. Elizabeth holds a B.A. In dance from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. After traveling and performing Elizabeth returned to Minnesota to get her Stott Pilates Instructor training. She has had the privilege of training a broad spectrum of people ranging from business professionals to world-class and Olympic rowers.
Elizabeth has a special calling to use dance as a means of outreach to people in post war-torn nations in Africa. In 2007, she traveled with Compassion Corps to Tunisia, Africa to begin connecting with people there for this purpose.
LeAnne Howell, Instructor
LeAnne has been active all her life. A former ballet dancer, LeAnne studied dance from the age of nine with local instructors, as well as Shamil Yagudin of the Bolshoi Ballet and Frank Hatchett of Broadway Dance Center. LeAnne studied dance at East Carolina University during her freshman year of college, however knee problems altered her career path. In 2001, LeAnne received a Bachelor Degree from N.C. State University and has worked in the P.R. and Marketing arena since.
LeAnne was introduced to Pilates in 2006 and immediately fell in love. She found the workouts challenging and effective, without pain or stress on her knees. In 2010, LeAnne completed Intensive Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels certification through the acclaimed STOTT Pilates and also completed TRX Suspension Training Course.
LeAnne has achieved amazing strength, flexibility and endurance through her Pilates practice and looks forward to sharing her passion for Pilates with clients of all levels.
Laura Lindekens, Instructor
Laura Lindekens first discovered Pilates as a way to get her body back after giving birth to two children. She worked hard and achieved her goal as a student under the supervision of Carrie Jacobs and the Pilates Studio at the Lake team. Now, Laura is helping others achieve their own goals. Originally from California, Laura and her family relocated to North Carolina in 2006. She’s a graduate of California State University, Fresno.
Laura completed her Pilates training with Stott Pilates and is certified to teach on all Pilates equipment.
